CH 750 REPAIRS

Picture

Work on the damaged CH750 is moving along............... This how it looked after most all the damaged parts were removed.
Picture
Front and bottom sheet metal all new to firewall

Modified nose wheel "centering" feature for smoother rudder feel. Steering thru spring loaded push rods.

All of fuel system reworked. All hard lines with Newton/SPRL Fuel Selector and header tank

Curtis drain valves under rear of seats, single gascolator on firewall.

All new panel and layout, will have 2 separate batteries (besides back-up battery) and be able to parallel for starts and charging.

The new slatted wing for  the CH750 (black) compares to the standard wing (red). Wing incidence is nearly the same so no need to change the attach points
Picture
This is an view of the original airfoil with fixed slat over the new movable slat wing in progress. All original attach points the same as the plans call for, just a different airfoil section. The Angle of Attack is almost the same 2.6 degrees if chord measured through center of original flaperon trailing edge. The stabilizer is the same as original design but with testing I believe will change to a symmetrical stabilizer section.

With most of our efforts focused on the Piper wing at the moment, progress on the CH750 is going a little slow. Although, all components for the wings are now made with the exception of the main ribs. We need a slightly larger press to form these. All components in these wings are made of 2024 T4, which is the condition of the 2024 after heat treating. This process is used to form the parts while in "W" state which is similar to the "O" condition ......... helps eliminate warping. T4 and T3 have virtually the same properties.

Will be putting more detailed info up on the Piper style slatted wings soon............. just better hold off for a little while. They are fabricated from the "T" sections and parts shown on the products page. These wings will be fairly unique for the Piper types as the slats will be fully automatic as on the Helio. They will also have spoilers, or interrupters as they were called on the Helio, for low speed roll control. In addition to larger flaps and ailerons, they will eventually have a control mixer to "droop" flaps and ailerons together but functions will remain separate. Also, they will have the ability to reflex to lose some lift for cruise flight and help eliminate some stabilizer trim drag.

Picture
This shows the section with slats extended and flaps at 45 degrees. It wasn't possible to get the flaps to the optimum 25 - 26% of section and stay with original spar placements and design CG. No structural changes made to original design other than airfoil section and materials but should have a significant effect on performance. All materials in this wing are 2024 T3 including spar.
Picture
We are also experimenting with the "Gurney Flap" which is a spin off of this early patent. We are making our trailing edges "squared off" at 99% chord to accommodate this which also is supposed to help reduce drag slightly and make for more crisp controls ................ don't know how much at the lower speeds these airplanes fly but we'll see........

Metal Spar Clip Wing Cub Project

Below are the wing strut attach parts for the Clip Wing Cub. These will be utilizing the LS-3 Strut material.
Picture

Unlike the other Piper Short Wings, the CWC will have jury struts to keep struts in column in high
negative loads. AN42 eyebolts are used as in Citabria/Decathlon struts.

Internal compression members made of round "spools" rather than a solid block to save a little weight.

The H2V fitting bolts in the original Piper style strut attach point and allows the attach bolts in the struts to be vertical and eliminates any alignment issues.

Pacer Plus, Plus II, Pacer ATS? .... Still don't know what is gonna be called yet........

Picture
Some have dubbed it "The Bastard"! Dunno if I would really want to stick with that................. would be tough to market those kits! But was given that title since it is a Short Wing with 24" Extended Fuselage (Pacer Plus). The Plus II, or whatever it ends up being called, will be a more traditional stretch with the long wing but the main difference is the fully auto-slatted wing with a different airfoil section. The above drawing is how it started out about 15-16 years ago. It has evolved a great deal since I first had the idea.

Here's a few pics of the wing in progress for the Stretch. Besides the Auto-Slats, it will also have Spoilers for low speed Roll Control as well as decent control. The spar length is 165" so it will still be considered a "Short Wing", slightly extended with Spar reinforcements at the strut attach area. Although this one has not been tested, similar reinforcements have been tested to over 2400 pounds. These pics were taken before moving to new location. Not much work has been done since the move but plan on getting  back on it shortly. I also have a "Long Wing" version with 204" Spars built up but not assembled yet. Both wings have Flaps and Ailerons with deeper chord.

Along with all aluminum struts, the Pacer Plus will have the new "Shoulder Nuts" on the attach fittings to reduce hardware exposure below the strut.
